The Story of Brother and Sister

This unique illustrate-your-own coloring book is specifically designed to encourage communication between children and their parents (or teachers) through art and discussion. This is not a book to hand to a child and go away! My hope is that the children and caregivers will read the story together, and the children will use their imaginations to bring the story to life. Through their illustrations, parents and teachers can see how they are processing the information, and engage them in discussion on the topics involved.

This book uses a folktale-style story to tell of the journey of the Black Man and Woman in America, from our capture, to the deception told to us, to our division, and finally to gaining knowledge of self, and unity with one another and re-connection to our family. I wanted to convey to children that our enslavement was not a matter for them to feel shame over, but that the reason we were taken and kept here by any means possible was because what we had inside was valuable, powerful, and coveted by those who lacked what we had.

Self-printed. Bound by hand. Delivered with love.

Synopsis:

Brother and Sister are the infant heirs of a mighty and beautiful kingdom. However, a jealous Trickster wants to have a kingdom like it for himself and devises a scheme to steal them away so they could build one for him. The only way to keep them working for him is to convince them that they are not what they are, but he cannot keep the truth hidden forever!

This book is a work of love in progress. We have decided to make this book available for purchase in its unillustrated state, however, it is formatted in such a way that your child can draw the pictures for themselves, using their own imaginations to show what Brother and Sister look like, what their kingdom looks like, and every step of the journey they make toward finding home again.

Proceeds from the sale of this illustrate-your-own edition of our unique folk tale will go toward the production and publishing of a fully illustrated edition for your family to cherish. We hope you will return to see the final product!
